1st Chapter 19th Sloka

स घोषो धार्तराष्ट्राणां हृदयानि व्यदारयत् ।

नभश्च पृथिवीं चैव तुमुलो व्यनुनादयन् ॥१-१९॥

 

sa ghoṣo dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṃ hṛdayāni vyadārayat |

nabhaśca pṛthivīṃ caiva tumulo vyanunādayan ||1-19||

 

सः 1/1 घोषः 1/1 धार्तराष्ट्राणाम् 6/3 हृदयानि 2/3 व्यदारयत् III/1

नभः 2/1 0 पृथिवीम् 2/1 0 एव 0 तुमुलः 1/1 व्यनुनादयन् 1/1 ॥१-१९॥

 

·       सः [saḥ] = that = तद् (pron. M.) + adj. to घोषः 1/1

·       घोषः [ghoṣaḥ] = sound = घोष (m.) + कर्तरि to व्यदारयत् 1/1

·       धार्तरष्ट्राणाम् [dhārtaraṣṭrāṇām] = of the sons of Dṛtaraṣṭra = धार्तरष्ट्र (m.) + सम्बन्ध to हृदयानि 6/3

·       हृदयानि [hṛdayāni] = hearts = हृदय (n.) + कर्म of व्यदारयत् 2/3

·       व्यदारयत् [vyadārayat] = pierced = वि + दॄ (9P) to tear + णिच् (causative) + लङ्/कर्तरि/III/1

·       नभः [nabhaḥ] = sky = नभस् (n.) + कर्म of व्यनुनादयन् 2/1

·       [ca] = and = अव्ययम्

·       पृथिवीम् [pṛthivīm] = earth = पृथिवी (f.) + कर्मणि of व्यनुनादयन् 2/1

·       [ca] = and = अव्ययम्

·       एव [eva] = indeed = अव्ययम्

·       तुमुलः [tumulaḥ] = tremendous = तुमुल (m.) + adj. to घोषः 1/1

·       व्यनुनादयन् [vyanunādayan] = reverberating = व्यनुनादयत् (m.) + adj. to घोषः 1/1

o   वि + अनु + नद् + णिच् (causative) to cause to resound+ शतृँ (one which is doing …) = व्यनुनादयत् one which is causing to resound

॥१-१९॥

 

That terrible sound, reverberating throughout te earth and sky, pierced the very hearts of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra.

 

That (सः 1/1) terrible (तुमुलः 1/1) sound (घोषः 1/1), reverberating (व्यनुनादयन् 1/1) throughout the earth (पृथिवीम् 2/1 0 एव 0) and ( 0) sky (नभः 2/1), pierced (व्यदारयत् III/1) the very hearts (हृदयानि 2/3) of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra (धार्तराष्ट्राणाम् 6/3).

सः 1/1 तुमुलः 1/1 घोषः 1/1 धार्तरष्ट्राणाम् 6/3 हृदयानि 2/3 व्यदारयत् III/1 That tremendous sound pierced the hearts of the sons of Dṛtaraṣṭra

 

Description of घोषः (the sound)

नभः 2/1 च पृथिवीम् 2/1 च एव व्यनुनादयन् 1/1 resounding between the sky and the earth
