3rd Chapter 2nd Sloka

vyāmiśreṇeva vākyena buddhiṃ mohayasīva me |
tadekaṃ vada niścitya yena śreyo'hamāpnuyām ||3.2||

·         व्यामिश्रेण [vyāmiśreṇa] = contradictory = व्यामिश्र (n.) + adj. to वाक्येन 3/1
·         इव [iva] = seemingly = अव्ययम्
·         वाक्येन [vākyena] = by words = वाक्य (n.) + 3/1
·         बुद्धिम् [buddhim] = mind = बुद्धि (f.) + 2/1
·         मोहयसि [mohayasi] = confuse = मुह् (to be deluded) + णिच् (to confuse) + लट्/कर्तरि/II/1
·         मे [me] = my = अस्मद् (pron. m.) + सम्बन्धे to बुद्धिम् 6/1
·         तत् [tat] = that = तद् (pron. n.) + कर्मणि to निश्चित्य and वद 2/1
·         एकम् [ekam] = one = एक (pron. n.) + कर्मणि to निश्चित्य and वद 2/1
·         वद [vada] = say = वद् (to say) + लोट्/कर्तरि/II/1
·         निश्चित्य [niścitya] = having decided = अव्ययम्
·         येन [yena] = by which = यद् (pron. n.) + करणे to आप्नुयाम् 3/1
·         श्रेयः [śreyaḥ] = liberation = श्रेयस् (n.) + कर्मणि to आप्नुयाम् 2/1
·         अहम्  [aham] = I = अस्मद् (pron. m.) + 1/1
·         आप्नुयाम् [āpnuyām] = shall gain =  आङ् + आप् (to gain) + विधिलिङ्/कर्तरि/I/1

With words that are seemingly contradictory, you appear to be confusing my mind. Having decided which is better, tell me the one thing by which I shall gain liberation.

Sentence 1:
With words (वाक्येन 3/1) that are seemingly (इव 0) contradictory (व्यामिश्रेण 3/1), you appear to be (इव 0) confusing (मोहयसि II/1) my (मे 6/1) mind (बुद्धिम् 2/1).

Sentence 2:
Having decided (निश्चित्य 0) which is better (तत् 2/1), tell me (वद II/1) the one thing (एकम् 2/1) by which (येन 3/1) I (अहम् 1/1) shall gain (आप्नुयाम् I/1) liberation (श्रेयः 2/1).

  1. आप्नुयाम् [āpnuyām] = shall gain = आङ् + आप् (to gain) + विधिलिङ्/कर्तरि/I/1

    How आङ् before आप् ?

  2. It can be without आङ्. The forms will be the same.
    Namaste.
