5th Chapter 17th Sloka



तद्बुद्धयस्तदात्मानस्तन्निष्ठास्तत्परायणाः ।
गच्छन्त्यपुनरावृत्तिं ज्ञाननिर्धूतकल्मषाः ॥५.१७॥

tadbuddhayastadātmānastanniṣṭhāstatparāyaṇāḥ |
gacchantyapunarāvṛttiṃ jñānanirdhūtakalmaṣāḥ ||5.17||


तद्बुद्धयः 1/3 तदात्मानः 1/3 तन्निष्ठाः 1/3 तत्परायणाः 1/3
गच्छन्ति III/3 अपुनरावृत्तिम् 2/1 ज्ञाननिर्धूतकल्मषाः 1/3 ॥५.१७॥


·         तद्बुद्धयः [tadbuddhayaḥ] = those whose intellect is awake to that (Brahman) = तद्बुद्धि (m.) + कर्तरि to गच्छन्ति 1/3
o   तस्मिन् ब्रह्मणि गता बुद्धिः येषां ते तद्बुद्धयः (716B) ।
·         तदात्मानः [tadātmānaḥ] = those for whom the self is that (Brahman) = तदात्मन् (m.) + कर्तरि to गच्छन्ति 1/3
o   तद् एव परं ब्रह्म आत्मा येषां ते तदात्मानः (116B) ।
·         तन्निष्ठाः [tanniṣṭhāḥ] = those who are committed only to that (Brahman) = तन्निष्ठ (m.) + कर्तरि to गच्छन्ति 1/3
o   तस्मिन् ब्रह्मणि निष्ठा अभिनिवेशः येषां ते तदात्मानः (716B) ।
·         तत्परायणाः [tatparāyaṇāḥ] = those for whom the ultimate end is that (Brahman) = तत्परायण (m.) + कर्तरि to गच्छन्ति 1/3
o   तद् एव परम् अयनं परा गतिः येषां ते तदात्मानः (116B) ।
·         गच्छन्ति [gacchanti] = attain = गम् (1P) to go, attain + लट्/कर्तरि/III/3
·         अपुनरावृत्तिम् [apunarāvṛttim] = a state from which there is no return = अपुनरावृत्ति (f.) + कर्मणि to गच्छन्ति 2/1
o   पुनः आवृत्तिः पुनरावृत्तिः (SS) ।
o   न पुनरावृत्तिः अपुनरावृत्तिः (NT), ताम् ।
·         ज्ञाननिर्धूतकल्मषाः [jñānanirdhūtakalmaṣāḥ] = whose impurities have been destroyed by knowledge = ज्ञाननिर्धूतकल्मष (m.) + कर्तरि to गच्छन्ति 1/3
o   ज्ञानेन निर्धूतः कल्मषः येषां ते (116B) ।


Those whose intellect is awake to that (Brahman), for whom the self is that (Brahman), who are committed only to that (Brahman), for whom the ultimate end is that (Brahman, which they have already accomplished), whose impurities have been destroyed by knowledge — they attain a state from which there is no return.

Sentence 1:
तद्बुद्धयः 1/3 तदात्मानः 1/3 तन्निष्ठाः 1/3 तत्परायणाः 1/3 ज्ञाननिर्धूतकल्मषाः 1/3 अपुनरावृत्तिम् 2/1 गच्छन्ति III/3 ॥५.१७॥
Those whose intellect is awake to that (Brahman) (तद्बुद्धयः 1/3), for whom the self is that (Brahman) (तदात्मानः 1/3), who are committed only to that (Brahman) (तन्निष्ठाः 1/3), for whom the ultimate end is that (Brahman) (तत्परायणाः 1/3), whose impurities have been destroyed by knowledge (ज्ञाननिर्धूतकल्मषाः 1/3) — they attain (गच्छन्ति III/3) a state from which there is no return (अपुनरावृत्तिम् 2/1).
