6th Chapter 7th Sloka

जितात्मनः प्रशान्तस्य परमात्मा समाहितः ।

शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु तथा मानापमानयोः ॥६.७॥

 

jitātmanaḥ praśāntasya paramātmā samāhitaḥ |

śītoṣṇasukhaduḥkheṣu tathā mānāpamānayoḥ ||6.7||

 

जितात्मनः 6/1 प्रशान्तस्य 6/1 परम् 0 आत्मा 1/1 समाहितः 1/1

शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु 7/3 तथा 0 मानापमानयोः 7/2 ॥६.७॥

 

·       जितात्मनः [jitātmanaḥ] = for the one who has mastery over oneself = जितात्मन् (m.) + सम्बन्धे to परमात्मा 6/1

o   जितः आत्मा येन सः जितात्मा (113B), तस्य ।

·       प्रशान्तस्य [praśāntasya] = whose mind is tranquil = प्रशान्त (m.) + सम्बन्धे to परमात्मा 6/1

·       परम् [param] = always = अव्ययम्

·       आत्मा [ātmā] = the mind = आत्मन् (m.) + कर्तरि to (भवति) 1/1

·       समाहितः [samāhitaḥ] = in a state of composure = समाहित (m.) complement to आत्मा 1/1

·       शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु [śītoṣṇasukhaduḥkheṣu] = with reference to heat and cold, pleasure and pain = शीतोष्णसुखदुःख (n.) + विषये to प्रशान्तस्य 7/3

·       तथा [tathā] = as well as = अव्ययम्

·       मानापमानयोः [mānāpamānayoḥ] = with reference to praise and criticism = मानापमान (m.) + विषये to प्रशान्तस्य 7/2

 

 

For the one who has mastery over oneself, whose mind is tranquil with reference to heat and cold, pleasure and pain, and praise and criticism, the mind is always in a state of composure.

 

Sentence 1:

For the one who has mastery over oneself (जितात्मनः 6/1), whose mind is tranquil (प्रशान्तस्य 6/1) with reference to heat and cold, pleasure and pain (शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु 7/3), and (तथा 0) praise and criticism (मानापमानयोः 7/2), the mind (आत्मा 1/1) is always (परम् 0) in a state of composure (समाहितः 1/1).
