6th Chapter 13th Sloka



समं कायशिरोग्रीवं धारयन्नचलं स्थिरः ।
सम्प्रेक्ष्य नासिकाग्रं स्वं दिशश्चानवलोकयन् ॥६.१३॥

samaṃ kāyaśirogrīvaṃ dhārayannacalaṃ sthiraḥ |
samprekṣya nāsikāgraṃ svaṃ diśaścānavalokayan ||6.13||

समम् 2/1 कायशिरोग्रीवम् 2/1 धारयन् 1/1 अचलम् 0 स्थिरः 1/1
सम्प्रेक्ष्य 0 नासिकाग्रम् 2/1 स्वम् 2/1 दिशः 2/3 0 अनवलोकयन्  1/1॥६.१३॥


·         तत्र [tatra] = there = अव्ययम्
·         समम् [samam] = same (in one line) = सम (n.) + adjective to कायशिरोग्रीवम् 2/1
·         कायशिरोग्रीवम् [kāyaśirogrīvam] = the body, head, and neck = कायशिरोग्रीव (n.) + कर्मणि to धारयन् 2/1
o   कायः च शिरः च ग्रीवा च कायशिरोग्रीईवम् (SD) ।
·         धारयन् [dhārayan] = holding = धारयत् (m.) + adjective to प्रशान्तात्मा (in the next verse) 1/1
·         अचलम् [acalam] = not moving = अव्ययम्
·         स्थिरः [sthiraḥ] = firm = स्थिर (m.) + adjective to प्रशान्तात्मा (in the next verse) 1/1
·         सम्प्रेक्ष्य [samprekṣya] = looking  = अव्ययम्
·         नासिकाग्रम् [nāsikāgram] = at the tip of nose = नासिकाग्र (n.) + कर्मणि to सम्प्रेक्ष्य 2/1
o   नासिकयाः अग्रम् (6T) ।
·         स्वम् [svam] = one’s = स्व (n.) + adjective to नासिकाग्रम् 2/1
·         दिशः [diśaḥ] = all directions = दिश् (f.) + कर्मणि to अनवलोकयन्  2/3
·         अनवलोकयन्  [anavalokayan] = not looking= अनवलोकयत् (m.) + adjective to प्रशान्तात्मा (in the next verse) 1/1


Holding oneself firm without moving, holding the body, head, and neck in one straight line, (as though) looking at the tip of one's nose and not looking in all directions, …


Sentence 1:
समम् 2/1 कायशिरोग्रीवम् 2/1 धारयन् 1/1 अचलम् 0 स्थिरः 1/1
स्वम् 2/1 नासिकाग्रम् 2/1 सम्प्रेक्ष्य 0 दिशः 2/3 0 अनवलोकयन्  1/1॥६.१३॥
Holding (धारयन् 1/1) oneself without moving (अचलम् 0 स्थिरः 1/1), the body, head, and neck (कायशिरोग्रीवम् 2/1) in one straight line (समम् 2/1), (as though) looking (सम्प्रेक्ष्य 0) at the tip of one's nose (स्वम् 2/1 नासिकाग्रम् 2/1) and ( 0) not looking (अनवलोकयन्  1/1) in all directions (दिशः 2/3), …





बाह्यमासनमुक्तम्; अधुना शरीरधारणं कथम् इत्युच्यते --
।।6.13।। --
समं कायशिरोग्रीवं कायश्च शिरश्च ग्रीवा कायशिरोग्रीवं तत् समं धारयन् अचलं च। समं
धारयतः चलनं संभवति; अतः विशिनष्टि -- अचलमिति। स्थिरः स्थिरो भूत्वा इत्यर्थः। स्वं
नासिकाग्रं संप्रेक्ष्य सम्यक् प्रेक्षणं दर्शनं कृत्वेव इति। इवशब्दो लुप्तो द्रष्टव्यः। हि स्वनासिकाग्रसंप्रेक्षणमिह विधित्सितम्। किं तर्हि? चक्षुषो दृष्टिसंनिपातः।
अन्तःकरणसमाधानापेक्षो विवक्षितः। स्वनासिकाग्रसंप्रेक्षणमेव चेत् विवक्षितम्, मनः तत्रैव
समाधीयेत, नात्मनि। आत्मनि हि मनसः समाधानं वक्ष्यति 'आत्मसंस्थं मनः कृत्वा (गीता
625)' इति। तस्मात् इवशब्दलोपेन अक्ष्णोः दृष्टिसंनिपात एव 'संप्रेक्ष्य' इत्युच्यते। दिशश्च
अनवलोकयन् दिशां अवलोकनमन्तराकुर्वन् इत्येतत्।।
