2nd Chapter 41st Sloka

व्यवसायात्मिका बुद्धिरेकेह कुरुनन्दन ।

बहुशाखा ह्यनन्ताश्च बुद्धयोऽव्यवसायिनाम् ॥२.४१॥

vyavasāyātmikā buddhirekeha kurunandana |

bahuśākhā hyanantāśca buddhayo'vyavasāyinām ||2.41||

व्यवसायात्मिका ^1/1 बुद्धिः ^1/1 एका ^1/1 इह ⁰ कुरुनन्दन ^8/1 ।

बहुशाखाः ^1/3 हि ⁰ अनन्ताः ^1/3 च ⁰ बुद्धयः ^1/3 अव्यवसायिनाम् ^6/3 ॥२.४१॥

·         व्यवसायात्मिका [vyavasāyātmikā] = well-ascertained = व्यवसायात्मिका (f.) + 1/1

·         बुद्धिः [buddhiḥ] = understanding = बुद्धि (f.) + 1/1

·         एका [ekā] = one = एका (pron. f.) + 1/1

·         इह  [iha] = in this = अव्ययम्

·         कुरुनन्दन [kurunandana] = O! Descendant of Kurus = कुरुनन्दन (m.) + सम्बोधने 1/1

·         बहुशाखाः [bahuśākhāḥ] = many-brached = बहुशाखा (f.) + 1/3

·         हि [hi] = indeed = अव्ययम्

·         अनन्ताः [anantāḥ] = innumerable = अनन्ता (f.) + 1/3

·         च [ca] = and = अव्ययम्

·         बुद्धयः [buddhayaḥ] = notions = बुद्धि (f.) + 1/3

·         अव्यवसायिनाम् [avyavasāyinām] = of the indiscriminate = अव्यवसायिन् (m.) + 6/3

With reference to this (mokṣa), O! Descendant of Kurus, there is a single, well-ascertained understanding. The notions of those who lack discrimination are many-branched and innumerable indeed.

Sentence 1:

इह ⁰ व्यवसायात्मिका ^1/1 एका ^1/1 बुद्धिः ^1/1 कुरुनन्दन ^8/1 ।

With reference to this (mokṣa) (इह ⁰), O! Descendant of Kurus (कुरुनन्दन ^8/1), there is a single (एका ^1/1), well-ascertained (व्यवसायात्मिका ^1/1) understanding (बुद्धिः ^1/1).

Sentence 2:

बहुशाखाः ^1/3 हि ⁰ अनन्ताः ^1/3 च ⁰ अव्यवसायिनाम् ^6/3 बुद्धयः ^1/3 ॥२.४१॥

The notions (बुद्धयः ^1/3) of those who lack discrimination (अव्यवसायिनाम् ^6/3) are many-branched (बहुशाखाः ^1/3) and (च ⁰) innumerable (अनन्ताः ^1/3) indeed (हि ⁰).
