2nd Chapter 51st Sloka

कर्मजं बुद्धियुक्ता हि फलं त्यक्त्वा मनीषिणः ।

जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ताः पदं गच्छन्त्यनामयम् ॥२.५१॥

karmajaṃ buddhiyuktā hi phalaṃ tyaktvā manīṣiṇaḥ |

janmabandhavinirmuktāḥ padaṃ gacchantyanāmayam ||2.51||

कर्मजम् ^2/1 बुद्धियुक्ताः ^1/3 हि ⁰ फलम् ^2/1 त्यक्त्वा ⁰ मनीषिणः ^1/3 ।

जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ताः ^1/3 पदम् ^2/1 गच्छन्ति ^III/3 अनामयम् ^2/1 ॥२.५१॥

·         कर्मजम् [karmajam] = born of action = कर्मज (n.) + adj. to फलम् 2/1

·         बुद्धियुक्ताः [buddhiyuktāḥ] = those who are endowed with the samatva-buddhi = बुद्धियुक्त (m.) + 1/3

·         हि [hi] = indeed = अव्ययम्

·         फलम् [phalam] = result = फल (n.) + कर्मणि to त्यक्त्वा 2/1

·         त्यक्त्वा [tyaktvā] = having given up = अव्ययम्

·         मनीषिणः [manīṣiṇaḥ] = the wise = मनीषिन् (m.) + 1/3

o   मनीषा अस्य अस्ति इति

·         जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ताः [janmabandhavinirmuktāḥ] = those who are free from the bondage of birth = जन्मबन्धनिविर्मुक्त (m.) + 1/3

o   जन्म एव बन्धः इति जन्मबन्धः । कर्मधारयतत्पुरुषसमासः

o   जन्मबन्धेन विनिर्मुक्ताः जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ताः । तृतीयातत्पुरुषसमासः

·         पदम् [padam] = the end = पद (n.) + कर्मणि to गच्छन्ति 2/1

·         गच्छन्ति [gacchanti] = they gain = गम् (1P) to go + लट्/कर्तरि/III/3

·         अनामयम् [anāmayam] = free from all afflictions = अनामय (n.) + adj. to पदम् 2/1

o   अविद्यमानम् आमयम् यस्मिन् इति अनामयम् । NB

The wise, endowed with the attitude of karma-yoga, having given up the results of action free from the bondage of birth indeed accomplish the end that is free from all afflictions.

Sentence 1:

कर्मजम् ^2/1 फलम् ^2/1 त्यक्त्वा ⁰ मनीषिणः ^1/3 बुद्धियुक्ताः ^1/3 जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ताः ^1/3 अनामयम् ^2/1 पदम् ^2/1 हि ⁰ गच्छन्ति ^III/3 ॥२.५१॥

The wise (मनीषिणः ^1/3), endowed with the attitude of karma-yoga (बुद्धियुक्ताः ^1/3), having given up (त्यक्त्वा ⁰) the results (फलम् ^2/1) of action (कर्मजम् ^2/1) free from the bandage of birth (जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ताः ^1/3) indeed (हि ⁰) accomplish (गच्छन्ति ^III/3) the end (पदम् ^2/1) that is free from all afflictions (अनामयम् ^2/1).
