1st Chapter 43rd Sloka

दोषैरेतैः कुलघ्नानां वर्णसङ्करकारकैः ।

उत्साद्यन्ते जातिधर्माः कुलधर्माश्च शाश्वताः ॥४३॥

doṣairetaiḥ kulaghnānāṃ varṇasaṅkarakārakaiḥ |

utsādyante jātidharmāḥ kuladharmāśca śāśvatāḥ ||43||

दोषैः ^3/3 एतैः ^3/3 कुलघ्नानाम् ^6/3 वर्णसङ्करकारकैः ^3/3 ।

उत्साद्यन्ते ^III/3 जातिधर्माः ^1/3 कुलधर्माः ^1/3 च ⁰ शाश्वताः ^1/3 ॥४३॥

·         दोषैः [doṣaiḥ] = by wrong actions = दोष (m.) + 3/3

·         एतैः [etaiḥ] = these = एतद् (pron. m.) + 3/3

·         कुलघ्नानाम् [kulaghnānām] = of the destroyer of the family = कुलघ्न (m.) + 6/3

·         वर्णसङ्करकारकैः [varṇasaṅkarakārakaiḥ] = the causes of the confusion in the society = वर्णसङ्करकारक (m.) + 3/3

o   वर्णानां (of the social scheme) सङ्करः (confusion) वर्णसङ्करः । षष्ठीतत्पुरुषः

o   वर्णसङ्करस्य (of the confusion in the society) कारकाः (causes) वर्णसङ्करकारकाः । षष्ठीतत्पुरुषः

·         उत्साद्यन्ते [utsādyante] = are destroyed = उद् + सद् to destroy+ णिच् causative + लट्/कर्मणि/III/3

·         जातिधर्माः [jātidharmāḥ] = dharmas pursued by the community = जातिधर्म (m.) + कर्तरि to उत्साद्यन्ते 1/3

·         कुलधर्माः [kuladharmāḥ] = dharmas pursued by the family = कुलधर्म (m.) + कर्तरि to उत्साद्यन्ते 1/3

·         च [ca] = and = अव्ययम्

·         शाश्वताः [śāśvatāḥ] = perennial = शाश्वत (m.) + adj. to जातिधर्माः and कुलधर्माः 1/3

                   

Sentence:

एतैः ^3/3 कुलघ्नानाम् ^6/3 वर्णसङ्करकारकैः ^3/3 दोषैः ^3/3 शाश्वताः ^1/3 जातिधर्माः ^1/3 कुलधर्माः ^1/3 च ⁰ उत्साद्यन्ते ^III/3 ॥४३॥

By these (एतैः ^3/3) wrong actions (दोषैः ^3/3) of those who destroy the family (कुलघ्नानाम् ^6/3), creating confusion in the society (वर्णसङ्करकारकैः ^3/3), the perennial (शाश्वताः ^1/3) dharmas pursued by the community (जातिधर्माः ^1/3) and (च ⁰) the family (कुलधर्माः ^1/3) are destroyed (उत्साद्यन्ते ^III/3).

1st Chapter 42nd Sloka

सङ्करो नरकायैव कुलघ्नानां कुलस्य च ।

पतन्ति पितरो ह्येषां लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ॥१.४२॥

 

saṅkaro narakāyaiva kulaghnānāṃ kulasya ca |

patanti pitaro hyeṣāṃ luptapiṇḍodakakriyāḥ ||1.42||

 

सङ्करः ^1/1 नरकाय ^4/1 एव ⁰ कुलघ्नानाम् ^6/3 कुलस्य ^6/1 च ⁰ ।

पतन्ति ^III/3 पितरः ^1/3 हि ⁰ एषाम् ^6/3 लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ^1/3 ॥१.४२॥

 

Confusion, indeed, leads the family and the desroyers of the family to the world of pain. Their ancestors, denied of their post death rituals, indeed fall.

 

Confusion (सङ्करः ^1/1), indeed (एव ⁰), leads the family (कुलस्य ^6/1) and (च ⁰) the desroyers of the family (कुलघ्नानाम् ^6/3) to the world of pain (नरकाय ^4/1).

Their ancestors (पितरः ^1/3), denied of their (एषाम् ^6/3) post death rituals (लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ^1/3), indeed (हि ⁰) fall (पतन्ति ^III/3).

 

·       सङ्करः [saṅkaraḥ] = confusion = सङ्कर (m.) + कर्तर to (कल्पते, results in)1/1

·       नरकाय [narakāya] = the world of pain = नरक (m./n.) + (वा.) कॢपि सम्पद्यमाने 4/1

·       एव [eva] = indeed = अव्ययम्

·       कुलघ्नानाम् [kulaghnānām] = of the destroyers of the family = कुलघ्न (m.) + सम्बन्धे to नरकाय 6/3

·       कुलस्य [kulasya] = of the family = कुल (m.) + सम्बन्धे to नरकाय 6/1

·       च [ca] = and = अव्ययम्

·       पतन्ति [patanti] = they fall = पत् (1P) to fall + लट्/कर्तरि/III/3

·       पितरः [pitaraḥ] = ancestors = पितृ (m.) + कर्तरि to पतन्ति 1/3

·       हि [hi] = indeed = अव्ययम्

·       एषाम् [eṣām] = of these [family and the destroyers of the family] = एतद् (m.) + सम्बन्धे to पितरः 6/3

·       लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः [luptapiṇḍodakakriyāḥ] = ones who are denied of their post death rituals = लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रिय (m.) + adj. to पितरः 1/3

 

अन्वयः

सङ्करः ^1/1 कुलस्य ^6/1 कुलघ्नानाम् ^6/3 च ⁰ नरकाय ^4/1 एव ⁰ [कल्पते]।

एषाम् ^6/3 पितरः ^1/3 लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ^1/3 (सन्तः) हि ⁰ पतन्ति ^III/3 ॥४२॥

 

 

Sentence 1:

सङ्करः ^1/1 कुलस्य ^6/1 कुलघ्नानाम् ^6/3 च ⁰ नरकाय ^4/1 एव ⁰ [कल्पते]।

Confusion (सङ्करः ^1/1), indeed (एव ⁰), will result in (कल्पते) the world of pain (नरकाय ^4/1) for the family (कुलस्य ^6/1) and (च ⁰) the destroyer of the family (कुलघ्नानाम् ^6/3).

 

Sentence 2:

एषाम् ^6/3 लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ^1/3 पितरः ^1/3 हि ⁰ पतन्ति ^III/3 ॥४२॥

The ancestors (पितरः ^1/3) of these people (एषाम् ^6/3), being denied of their post death rituals (लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ^1/3), will indeed (हि ⁰) fall (पतन्ति ^III/3).

अधर्माभिभवात् कृष्ण प्रदुष्यन्ति कुलस्त्रियः ।

स्त्रीषु दुष्टासु वार्ष्णेय जायते वर्णसङ्करः ॥४१॥

adharmābhibhavāt kṛṣṇa praduṣyanti kulastriyaḥ |

strīṣu duṣṭāsu vārṣṇeya jāyate varṇasaṅkaraḥ ||41||

अधर्माभिभवात् ^5/1 कृष्ण ^S/1 प्रदुष्यन्ति ^III/3 कुलस्त्रियः ^1/3 ।

स्त्रीषु ^7/3 दुष्टासु ^7/3 वार्ष्णेय ^S/1 जायते ^III/1 वर्णसङ्करः ^1/1 ॥४१॥

·       अधर्माभिभवात् [adharmābhibhavāt] = due to increase of adharma = अधर्माभिभव (m.) + हेतौ 5/1

o   अधर्मस्य (of adharma) अभिभवः (overpowering) अधर्माभिभवः । षष्ठीतत्पुरुषसमासः

·       कृष्ण [kṛṣṇa] = Kṛṣṇa = कृष्ण + सम्बोधने 1/1

·       प्रदुष्यन्ति [praduṣyanti] = will be given to improper ways = प्र + दुष् to be corrupted + लृट्/कर्तरि/III/3

·       कुलस्त्रियः [kulastriyaḥ] = the women in the family = कुलस्त्री (f.) + 1/3

o   कुलस्य (of the family) स्त्रियः (women) कुलस्त्रियः । षष्ठीतत्पुरुषसमासः

·       स्त्रीषु [strīṣu] = when women are = स्त्री (f.) + सति सप्तमी 7/3

·       दुष्टासु [duṣṭāsu] = corrupted = स्त्री (f.) + सति सप्तमी 7/3

·       वार्ष्णेय [vārṣṇeya] = Vārṣṇeya (Kṛṣṇa) = वार्ष्णेय + सम्बोधने 1/1

o   वृष्णिवंशप्रसूतः, वृष्णेः अपत्यम् वार्ष्णेयः । Descendant of Vṛṣṇi clan

·       जायते [jāyate] = is born = जन् (4A) to be born + लट्/कर्तरि/III/1

·       वर्णसङ्करः [varṇasaṅkaraḥ] = confusion in one’s duty = वर्णसङ्कर + कर्तरि to जायते 1/1

o   नि + वृत् to avoid + तुमुँन्

                   

Sentence 1:

कृष्ण ^S/1 अधर्माभिभवात् ^5/1 कुलस्त्रियः ^1/3 प्रदुष्यन्ति ^III/3 ।

O Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण ^S/1) ! Due to the increase of adharma (अधर्माभिभवात् ^5/1), the women in the family (कुलस्त्रियः ^1/3) will be given to improper ways (प्रदुष्यन्ति ^III/3).

Sentence 2:

वार्ष्णेय ^S/1 स्त्रीषु ^7/3 दुष्टासु ^7/3 वर्णसङ्करः ^1/1 जायते ^III/1 ॥४१॥

O Vārṣṇeya (वार्ष्णेय ^S/1) ! When the women (स्त्रीषु ^7/3) are corrupt (दुष्टासु ^7/3), the confusion of the society (वर्णसङ्करः ^1/1) will be born (जायते ^III/1).
