6th Chapter 43rd Sloka

तत्र तं बुद्धिसंयोगं लभते पौर्वदेहिकम् ।

यतते च ततो भूयः संसिद्धौ कुरुनन्दन ॥६.४३॥

tatra taṃ buddhisaṃyogaṃ labhate paurvadehikam |

yatate ca tato bhūyaḥ saṃsiddhau kurunandana ||6.43||

तत्र ⁰ तम् ^2/1 बुद्धिसंयोगम् ^2/1 लभते ^III/1 पौर्वदेहिकम् ^2/1 ।

यतते ^III/1 च ⁰ ततः ⁰ भूयः ⁰ संसिद्धौ ^7/1 कुरुनन्दन ^S/1 ॥६.४३॥

           

·       तत्र [tatra] = there = अव्ययम्

·       तम् [tam] = that = तद् m. + adj. to बुद्धिसंयोगम् 2/1

·       बुद्धिसंयोगम् [buddhisaṃyogam] = connection through the intellect = बुद्धिसंयोग (m.) + कर्मणि to लभते 2/1

·       लभते [labhate] = gains = लभ् (1A) to gain + लट्/कर्तरि/III/1

·       पौर्वदेहिकम् [paurvadehikam] = that which existed in his previous body = पौर्वदेहिक m. + adj. to बुद्धिसंयोगम् 2/1

·       यतते [yatate] = strives = यत् (1A) to make effort + लट्/कर्तरि/III/1

·       च [ca] = and = अव्ययम्

·       ततः [tataḥ] = than that = अव्ययम्

·       भूयः [bhūyaḥ] = further = अव्ययम्

·       संसिद्धौ [saṃsiddhau] = success (in yoga) = संसिद्धि (f.) + अधिकरणे (विषये)/निमित्ते 7/1

·       कुरुनन्दन [kurunandana] = the joy of the Kuru family (Arjuna) = कुरुनन्दन (m.) + संबोधने 1/1

There, he gains a connection through the intellect with that which existed in his previous body and strives for further success (in yoga) than that (gained previously), Arjuna, the joy of the Kuru family!

Sentence 1:

There (तत्र ⁰), he gains (लभते ^III/1) a connection through the intellect (बुद्धिसंयोगम् ^2/1) with that (तम् ^2/1) which existed in his previous body (पौर्वदेहिकम् ^2/1) and (च ⁰) strives (यतते ^III/1) for success (in yoga) (संसिद्धौ ^7/1) further than that (gained previously) (ततः ⁰ भूयः ⁰), Arjuna, the joy of the Kuru family (कुरुनन्दन ^S/1)!

यस्मात् ^5/1 –

तत्र ⁰ योगिनाम् ^6/3 कुले ^7/1 तम् ^2/1 बुद्धिसंयोगम् ^2/1 बुद्ध्या ^3/1 संयोगम् ^2/1 बुद्धिसंयोगम् ^2/1 लभते ^III/1 पौर्वदेहिकम् ^2/1 पूर्वस्मिन् ^7/1 देहे ^7/1 भवम् ^2/1 पौर्वदेहिकम् ^2/1 । यतते ^III/1 च ⁰ प्रयत्नम् ^2/1 च ⁰ करोति ^III/1 ततः ⁰ तस्मात् ^5/1 पूर्वकृतात् ^5/1 संस्कारात् ^5/1 भूयः ⁰ बहुतरम् ^2/1 संसिद्धौ ^7/1 संसिद्धि-निमित्तम् ^2/1 हे ⁰ कुरुनन्दन ^S/1 ॥

6th Chapter 42nd Sloka

अथवा योगिनामेव कुले भवति धीमताम् ।

एतद्धि दुर्लभतरं लोके जन्म यदीदृशम् ॥६.४२॥

athavā yogināmeva kule bhavati dhīmatām |

etaddhi durlabhataraṃ loke janma yadīdṛśam ||6.42||

अथवा ⁰ योगिनाम् ^6/3 एव ⁰ कुले ^7/1 भवति ^III/1 धीमताम् ^6/3 ।

एतत् ^1/1 हि ⁰ दुर्लभतरम् ^1/1 लोके ^7/1 जन्म ^1/1 यत् ^1/1 ईदृशम् ^1/1 ॥६.४२॥

·       अथवा [athavā] = or = अव्ययम्

·       योगिनाम् [yoginām] = of yogins = योगिन् m. + सम्बन्धे to कुले 6/3

·       एव [eva] = indeed = अव्ययम्

·       कुले [kule] = into the family = कुल (n.) + अधिकरणे to भवति 7/1

·       भवति [bhavati] = is born = भू to be + लट्/कर्तरि/III/1

·       धीमताम् [dhīmatām] = of wise = धीमत् m. + सम्बन्धे to कुले 6/3

·       एतत् [etat] = this = एतद् n. + कर्तरि to (भवति) 1/1

·       हि  [eva] = indeed = अव्ययम्

·       दुर्लभतरम् [durlabhataram] = very difficult to gain = दुर्लभतर n. + S.C. to एतत् 1/1

·       लोके [loke] = in this world = लोक (m.) + अधिकरणे to (भवति) 7/1

·       जन्म [janma] = birth = जन्मन् (n.) + कर्तरि to (भवति) 1/1

·       यत् [yat] = that which = यद् n. + adj. to जन्म 1/1

·       ईदृशम् [īdṛśam] = like this = ईदृश n. + adj. to जन्म 1/1

Or he is indeed born into the family of wise yogins. A birth such as this is indeed very difficult to gain in this world.

Sentence 1:

Or (अथवा ⁰) he is indeed (एव ⁰) born (भवति ^III/1) into the family (कुले ^7/1) of wise (धीमताम् ^6/3) yogins (योगिनाम् ^6/3).

Sentence 2:

A birth (जन्म ^1/1) such as this (एतत् ^1/1 यत् ^1/1 ईदृशम् ^1/1) is indeed (हि ⁰) very difficult to gain (दुर्लभतरम् ^1/1) in this world (लोके ^7/1).

अथवा ⁰ श्रीमताम् ^6/3 कुलात् ^5/1 अन्यस्मिन् ^7/1 योगिनाम् ^6/3 एव ⁰ दरिद्राणाम् ^6/3 कुले ^7/1 भवति ^III/1 जायते ^III/1 धीमताम् ^6/3 बुद्धिमताम् ^6/3 । एतत् ^1/1 हि ⁰  जन्म ^1/1, यत् ^1/1 दरिद्राणाम् ^6/3 योगिनाम् ^6/3 कुले ^7/1, दुर्लभतरम् ^1/1 दुःख-लभ्यतरम् ^1/1 पूर्वम् ^2/1 अपेक्ष्य ⁰ लोके ^7/1 जन्म ^1/1 यत् ^1/1 ईदृशम् ^1/1 यथोक्त-विशेषणे ^7/1 कुले ^7/1 ॥
